Direz, affectionately known as "Rez," was born on February 10, 1990, and was employed at Dewey's Bakery as a Mixer. He was a beloved father, son, and companion, leaving behind five children, his parents Warren and Joy Shannon, and his loving companion, Cassie Martinez.
On the night of June 12, 2021, Direz Shannon was shot outside a house party on Swaim
Woods Lane in Winston-Salem. According to police reports, Shannon was driving by the large gathering when he stopped his car and got out. An argument ensued between Shannon and several individuals at the party, which ultimately led to Shannon being shot. He was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident marked the 18th homicide in Winston-Salem for the year 2021.
The investigation into Direz Shannon's death revealed that there were approximately 100 people at the party, but many had left the scene before the police arrived. Those who remained provided limited information to the authorities. Another man at the party was also shot in the leg but was treated and released from the hospital. The Winston-Salem Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved.
