Jahkee William Cooper, a 20-year-old African American male from Williamston, North Carolina, was shot and killed on August 27, 2019, during an attempted robbery in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Cooper and two other individuals attempted to break into a house on Reid Road. The homeowner, in an act of self-defense, shot and killed Cooper.
The other suspects managed to escape but were later apprehended and charged with multiple felonies.
The suspects involved in the attempted robbery were identified as Jomar Charva Bynum, 21, of Winterville, North Carolina, and Malik Lamonte Taybron, 21, of Wilson, North Carolina. Both were charged with felony First Degree Burglary, felony Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, and felony Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Bynum was held in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center with a $250,000 secured bond, while Taybron's bond was set at $45,000.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the 4700 block of Reid Road. Deputies responded to the scene and found Cooper dead. The investigation revealed that the homeowner's actions were justified, and no charges were filed against them.
