On December 27, 2023, at approximately 9:15 a.m., 15-year-old Amir Kidd and 16-year-old Tzion Dae were fatally shot at the Evoke Living at Sugar Creek Apartments on Merlane Drive in northeast Charlotte, North Carolina. Both teenagers sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
