In the spring of 2017, a 32-year-old man named Tyler Griffin was shot and killed in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident, which marked the city's 40th homicide of the year, occurred on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. Griffin was at a party on Boise Avenue when he was shot twice in the back.
