On February 5, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Fodiesville Road in Shannon, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims: 31-year-old Lisa Marie Chavis, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and 30-year-old Linnie B. Locklear Jr., who was transported to UNC Southeastern Medical Center. Despite medical efforts, Locklear Jr. succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
In the days following the incident, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, launched an intensive investigation into the double homicide. On February 7, 2024, 36-year-old Jamont B. Smith of Red Springs surrendered to authorities. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy, and was held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
The investigation progressed with the arrest of a second suspect. On February 13, 2024, Daniel Hicks, 30, also of Red Springs, was apprehended at an abandoned house near Lumberton. Hicks faced charges identical to Smith's: two counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy. He was detained without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center.
The tragic deaths of Locklear Jr. and Chavis have deeply affected the Shannon community. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, emphasizing that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
