Richard Locklear, a 26-year-old Native American male from Shannon, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on July 23, 2018. The incident occurred in Hoke County, where Richard was traveling home from a party with his family in their pickup truck. The vehicle was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Shannon Road and Old Wire Road when two suspects approached and opened fire. Over 30 rounds were fired into the truck, resulting in Richard's death.
His 2-year-old son, who was also in the truck, was unharmed, while another adult passenger was shot, and Richard's wife was injured by shattered glass.
The motive behind the shooting appeared to be robbery, as jewelry and money were taken from the victims. Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin confirmed that the suspects had followed the victims from a house party earlier in the day. The suspects, identified as Laroyce McLean, Sherron Leach, and James Quick, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.
