An exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the injuries of both Locklear and Dennard. The suspects fled the scene, and the Robeson County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division launched an investigation into the incident.
Steven Ray Locklear's death has left his family and community in mourning. He was born on September 22, 1983, to Jerry Oxendine and Annette Locklear in Cumberland County, North Carolina. He was known for his love for his family, fishing, and four-wheelers. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Edwards Locklear, his mother, Annette Locklear, and several siblings and nieces and nephews.
