In the quiet community of Shannon, North Carolina, a life was tragically cut short on the evening of Saturday, February 7, 2026. Seventeen-year-old Alexis Gonzalez was found deceased, the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident occurred in the area of Truck Lane, just outside of Rennert, where deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Gonzalez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the Red Springs High School student quickly focused on a primary suspect. Law enforcement identified a 15-year-old as the individual sought in connection with the shooting. Believing the suspect might be in the Red Springs or Shannon area, deputies and homicide detectives launched a search. The search concluded on the following Monday morning when the juvenile suspect was located and taken into custody.
Following the arrest, the 15-year-old was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Alexis Gonzalez. Due to state laws concerning the age of the accused, the name of the suspect was not publicly released by the authorities. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life, with a funeral Mass held for Alexis on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Red Springs.
