On February 14, 2024, 55-year-old Jody Allen Leazer of Mooresville, North Carolina, tragically passed away following an accidental shooting incident. Leazer and another individual were cleaning out a residence located in the 8500 block of West N.C. Highway 152. During the process, as a firearm was being loaded into a vehicle, it accidentally discharged, striking Leazer in the upper arm.
Emergency responders provided immediate medical assistance on-site before transporting him to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Rowan County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation into the incident. Detectives determined that the shooting was accidental, with no indications of foul play. Consequently, no charges were filed against any individuals involved.
Leazer was a well-known figure in the Mooresville community, recognized for his role as co-owner and operator of the Mooresville Dragway. He had a passion for farming, racing, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Bateman Leazer; his children, Corey, Blake, and Austin Leazer; his grandson, Jaxson Leazer; his parents, GW and Doris Hall Leazer; his sister, Kathy Leazer Gillan; and his brother, Doug Leazer, along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on February 20, 2024, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, where family and friends gathered to honor and remember his life.
