On February 17, 2024, at approximately 12:19 a.m., Wilson Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at 923 Washington Street in Wilson, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 43-year-old Bernard Terrance Javor Blue suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Investigations revealed that a physical altercation had occurred between Blue and 34-year-old Keytreal Deeshay Hooker prior to the shooting.
The two men had a history of previous confrontations, and during the incident, Blue reportedly attacked Hooker from behind and inflicted a significant stab wound to Hooker's neck. In response, Hooker allegedly shot Blue.
On March 12, 2024, Hooker turned himself in to authorities and was charged with an open count of murder in connection with Blue's death. During his initial court appearance, the defense highlighted Hooker's cooperation with law enforcement and the neck injury he sustained during the altercation. The judge set Hooker's bond at $100,000 secured, and a probable cause hearing was scheduled for March 26, 2024.
Bernard Blue's death marked the second homicide in Wilson for the year 2024, following a domestic shooting incident on February 9. The community has been urged to provide any additional information related to the case to assist in the ongoing investigation.
