According to reports, Carroll-Lee was shot at his home on Selma Street around 10 p.m. on that fateful night. Despite the efforts of the responding officers, who attempted lifesaving measures, Carroll-Lee succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into Carroll-Lee's death led to the arrest of two suspects. On May 3, 2020, Terry L.
Parker, 44, was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary in connection to the shooting. A few days later, on May 6, 2020, Telly S. Parker, 35, turned himself in and was also charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary. Both suspects were held without bond as the Wilson Police Department continued to investigate the case.
The trial for Telly S. Parker began in February 2023, with Resident Superior Court Judge L. Lamont Wiggins presiding. During the trial, eyewitnesses testified that Telly Parker had barged into Carroll-Lee's home and fired the fatal shot. Carroll-Lee's mother, Nicole Awad, recounted the harrowing events of that night, describing how Parker entered their home with a pistol and shot her son. The jury, composed of three men and nine women, heard the first evidence presented on the second day of the trial.
