On June 21, 2024, at approximately 9:12 p.m., Wilson Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at 1201 Downing Street in Wilson, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 43-year-old Anthony Marquis Barnes suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services pronounced Barnes deceased at the scene. A second victim, 43-year-old Rodney Earl Farmer, was also found with a gunshot wound and was transported to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment.
Following an investigation, authorities arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting:
- **Autavion Dorrian Lucas**, 21, of Wilson, charged with one count of felony murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
- **Tyree Demetrius Lucas**, 24, of Wilson, charged with one count of felony murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
Both suspects were taken into custody without bond.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed any potential relationship between the suspects and the victims. The Wilson Police Department continues to gather information and has urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
Funeral services for Anthony Marquis Barnes were held on June 29, 2024, at Tabernacle Temple of Jesus Christ in Wilson, followed by interment at Rest Haven Cemetery. Barnes was remembered by family and friends as a cherished individual whose untimely death has left a significant void in the community.
