On the night of July 17, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Wilson Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting on the 500 block of Winstead Street in Wilson, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Victor Lenoir Dixon suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Emergency medical services transported Dixon to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The subsequent investigation led authorities to identify 35-year-old Monquie Shantell Sanders, also of Wilson, as a suspect. Sanders and Dixon had previously been in a dating relationship. On July 18, 2023, police obtained an arrest warrant charging Sanders with one count of felony murder. She turned herself in to authorities later that day and was held without bond.
During her initial court appearance, Sanders requested a court-appointed attorney. The case remains under investigation, with authorities urging anyone possessing additional information to contact the Wilson Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
