On April 25, 2024, 22-year-old Myles Amadi Gresham, a senior business administration major at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), was tragically killed in Durham, North Carolina. Originally from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Gresham was found with a fatal gunshot wound inside his vehicle on Rose Garden Lane at the Lenox at Patterson Place apartments.
His car had collided with two parked vehicles, and despite immediate life-saving efforts by a nearby nurse, Gresham was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gresham was a dedicated student with entrepreneurial aspirations, actively involved in campus life as the treasurer of the Metro Eagles Club. He was set to graduate in May and had already accepted a job in Seattle. His father, Darrell Gresham, expressed profound grief, noting that his son had attended NCCU to honor the family and had dreams of starting a music career.
In the months following the incident, the Durham Police Department conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of 18-year-old Keanan Odom Jr. On August 15, 2024, Odom turned himself in and was charged with first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with Gresham's death. He is currently being held in the Durham County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
The arrest brought a measure of progress to the case, but the community continues to mourn the loss of a promising young individual whose life was cut short just as he was poised to embark on a new chapter.
