On April 28, 2024, at approximately 2:07 a.m., 37-year-old Julia Ann Shields was shot in the parking lot of CB's Tavern, located on Bethania Station Road in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on April 29, 2024.
In the days following the incident, the Winston-Salem Police Department reported that there were at least 50 witnesses present during the shooting.
Despite this, initial cooperation from witnesses was minimal, prompting pleas from both law enforcement and Shields' family for individuals to come forward with information.
On May 7, 2024, the Winston-Salem Police Department's SWAT team arrested 24-year-old Trequan Kentrell Scales in connection with the shooting. Scales was charged with felony discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and felony murder. He is being held without bond.
Julia Shields was a mother of four and a beloved member of her community. Her family continues to seek justice and has urged anyone with additional information about the events leading up to her death to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
