Ollie Deneen Richardson, a 54-year-old African American woman, was found dead on May 10, 2019, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The police were called to the scene at 9:29 a.m. on May 9, 2019, and Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that she had been shot five times, and the motive for the killing remained unclear.
Quashawn Lamont Stover, a 23-year-old
man, was arrested in connection with Richardson's murder. Stover was charged with second-degree murder and other related charges. Witnesses reported seeing Richardson with Stover the evening before her murder, and Stover admitted his involvement in the crime to several friends. Despite initially denying his involvement and providing an alibi, forensic analysis disproved his claims. Stover was also linked to an earlier shooting on May 9, 2019, at a home on West 12th Street in Winston-Salem, which was believed to be related to a personal dispute between Stover and a friend of Richardson's.
The Forsyth County District Attorney's Office authorized a murder charge against Stover, and he was held in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center without bond. In June 2024, Stover pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 19 years in prison.
