On the evening of October 13, 2023, at approximately 10:24 p.m., 39-year-old Natalie Carter and her 19-year-old daughter, Miya, were outside their residence on East 23rd Street in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A vehicle approached, and an individual inside began firing at them. Both sustained gunshot wounds; Natalie was critically injured and transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on October 15. Miya received treatment for minor injuries at the scene.
