On August 23, 2024, 37-year-old Joel Reyes Pizarro was found deceased on a sidewalk in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. Firefighters responding to a report of a person down discovered his body around 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Marengo Street and Evergreen Avenue. Initial reports suggested that Pizarro had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with at least eight shell casings found near his body.
However, on August 26, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner updated the cause of death, indicating that Pizarro had died from multiple blunt-force injuries, classifying the manner of death as homicide. The incident is believed to have occurred between 4 and 6 a.m. Pizarro was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Pizarro's death. The Los Angeles Police Department has not released information regarding any suspects or motives.
