Malika Charmane Davis, a 32-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on May 9, 2020, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. On that fateful day, Malika and her brother, Tyrone Davis, were involved in a violent altercation at their residence. The incident escalated when Terika Shannail Sims, a convicted felon, arrived at the scene and engaged in a physical fight with Malika. During the altercation, Sims shot Malika, inflicting fatal injuries.
Tyrone, who attempted to help his sister, was also shot but survived his injuries.
Following the incident, Sims fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement. She faced multiple charges, including second-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In October 2024, Sims pled guilty to these charges and was sentenced to 13 to 17 years in prison.
