On April 22, 2023, 21-year-old Beatrice Annemarie "Maxine" Knights tragically lost her life during a mass shooting at Happy Hill Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. during a large gathering at the park's pavilion, which was attended by over 200 people. Multiple individuals began discharging firearms into the crowd, resulting in five people being shot.
