On May 12, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 2200 block of Kilborne Drive in east Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Jovanni Ramirez Fuentes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an extensive investigation, CMPD detectives identified 28-year-old Christian Sosa as the primary suspect in Fuentes' murder. On September 1, 2024, the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Sosa. He was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown Charlotte for questioning and subsequently charged with murder. Sosa was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

He was passionate about soccer, often playing in his spare time, and was an avid supporter of FC Barcelona. Jovanni also enjoyed running, finding solace and happiness in each stride. His love for sports and the outdoors left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Funeral services were held on May 24, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Charlotte, followed by interment at York Memorial Park. The Ramirez family expressed their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of sympathy and support during this difficult time.
