On June 24, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Monroe Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident on North Secrest Avenue in Monroe, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered two teenagers with gunshot wounds: 17-year-old Jadyn Charles Rowdy, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and 18-year-old Jontavis Hood, who was transported to a local hospital and was expected to survive his injuries.
Investigations revealed that Rowdy and Hood were in the yard of a residence when a group of individuals arrived, leading to a verbal altercation. The confrontation escalated, resulting in multiple individuals discharging firearms. The assailants fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
In the days following the incident, Monroe Police arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting. On June 26, 2024, 20-year-old Christopher Thomas Barrett was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. Subsequently, on July 2, 2024, 19-year-old Jeremey Anthony Jackson was arrested and faced identical charges.
The tragic death of Jadyn Rowdy deeply affected the Monroe community. A Celebration of Life service was held on July 20, 2024, at Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marshville, North Carolina, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
