Ryan Michael Minor, a 10-year-old boy from Monroe, North Carolina, tragically passed away on June 14, 2006. Ryan, who was born on March 20, 1996, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was the loving son of Grace Minor and the brother of Ross Minor. He attended school at St. Matthew Catholic Church and was to be a 5th grader in the Fall. Ryan was known for his love of the outdoors, his keen sense of nature and animals, and his excellent swimming skills.
He swam for both the Harris YMCA and the Ballantyne YMCA.
The circumstances surrounding Ryan's death were deeply tragic. On June 14, 2006, Ryan's father, Mark Minor, shot his two sleeping sons at point-blank range in their heads, killing Ryan instantly and leaving his younger brother, Ross, blind. Mark Minor then committed suicide. The incident occurred at their home in Monroe, North Carolina. Mark Minor had a troubled marriage and had previously made threats of violence.
Ryan's death was a devastating loss for his family and community. He was remembered as a hero for saving many lives by donating his organs to others in need. His funeral mass was held on June 19, 2006, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, with a private family inurnment in the church columbarium. Ryan's legacy lives on through the lives he saved and the memories cherished by his loved ones.
