On July 5, 2024, at approximately 12:02 a.m., High Point Police responded to reports of gunfire at 2751 East Lexington Avenue, where a large crowd had gathered for an unofficial fireworks display. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, identified as 32-year-old Keith Lynch, was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
