On July 5, 2024, at approximately 12:02 a.m., High Point Police responded to reports of gunfire at 2751 East Lexington Avenue, where a large crowd had gathered for an unofficial fireworks display. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, identified as 32-year-old Keith Lynch, was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Keith Lynch, affectionately known as "Rico," was born on December 10, 1991, in Brooklyn, New York. He relocated to High Point, North Carolina, in 1994, where he graduated from T.W. Wingate Andrews High School. A baptized member of Living Water Baptist Church, Keith was known for his vibrant personality, love for life, and dedication to protecting his family. He is survived by his daughter, Zamoni Elizabeth Lynch, among other family members and friends who cherished his memory.
In the aftermath of the shooting, High Point Police recovered multiple shell casings from the scene, which are being analyzed to determine their calibers. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects. The investigation remains active, with the Violent Crimes Unit leading the efforts to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
