On October 22, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in Maiden, North Carolina, resulting in the deaths of 61-year-old Charles Kevin Cox, his wife, 61-year-old Cyndi Marie Cox, and their daughter, 28-year-old Jenna Lynn Cox. The Maiden Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the Cox residence on PJ McRee Road around 7:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the three victims, each fatally wounded by gunfire.
A 10-year-old boy, identified as Jenna Cox's son, was present in the home during the incident but was unharmed. He managed to escape to a neighbor's house to seek help.
The suspect, 27-year-old Issac Nathaniel Christenbury from Iron Station, North Carolina, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Investigations revealed that Christenbury had previously been in a romantic relationship with Jenna Cox, and it is believed that a dispute between them may have led to the shooting. After the incident, Christenbury contacted authorities to turn himself in and was arrested in Lincoln County. He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and is currently held in the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond. His initial court appearance took place on October 23, 2024, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for November 12, 2024.
The community of Maiden, which had not experienced a homicide in over two decades, was deeply affected by this tragedy. Neighbors and friends expressed their sorrow and concern, particularly for the young boy who survived the ordeal. A candlelight vigil was held at Malorie’s Place to honor the victims and support the grieving family. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
