of Emone Anthony Tyrone McGougan, a 20-year-old male from Fayetteville, as a suspect. McGougan was facing charges of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony conspiracy in connection with Johnson's death. However, McGougan was found dead on January 30, 2025, in Fayetteville, after being shot multiple times.
Another suspect, Christian Jared Ashworth, a 23-year-old male, was also charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy in the death of Johnson. Ashworth was arrested in February 2024 and was being held in the Cumberland County jail without bail.
