On the morning of March 12, Dawn Henry noticed Steven's car in her driveway as she returned home. Concerned, she contacted the Johnston County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered the bodies of Steven, Gregory, and Ashley inside the car. Authorities believe that Steven shot his children before turning the gun on himself.
The community was left in shock by the incident. Neighbors described the Henry family as relatively new to the area, having lived in the house for about six months. Dawn Henry, an employee of the Johnston County School System, was taken to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office to speak with investigators.
