Garrett Howard Bridges, a 25-year-old man from Clayton, North Carolina, was tragically killed in a home invasion on July 2, 2016. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when two masked suspects broke into his residence on Herndon Court. Garrett, who was asleep in the living room at the time, was shot and killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest. The suspects entered through a back door, and although children were present in the home, they were unharmed.
The investigation into Garrett's
death revealed that he likely knew the suspects, but it took nearly four years for an arrest to be made. On June 15, 2020, Clayton Police arrested 29-year-old Terrelle Andrews in Macon, Georgia, in connection with the murder. Andrews was extradited to Johnston County to stand trial for the crime. This arrest marked the resolution of Clayton's only remaining unsolved murder case at the time.
Garrett's family, including his mother, father, and grandmother, expressed their gratitude to the detectives who worked tirelessly on the case. They acknowledged the challenges Garrett faced in his life but emphasized their love and the pain of losing him. The family also extended their sympathy to the suspect's family, recognizing the difficult journey ahead for them.
The case remains under investigation, with police indicating that more arrests are likely. The dedication of the Clayton Police Department, particularly Lead Detective Jason Linder and Sergeant Brian Temple, played a crucial role in bringing some measure of closure to Garrett's family and the community.
