On the evening of July 15, 2023, at approximately 10:48 p.m., the Stokes County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting at 311 Tavern, located at 1137 North Main Street in Walnut Cove, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 37-year-old Benny Anthony Cañez lying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
