On February 9, 2023, at approximately 3:15 p.m., 39-year-old Anthony Dias of Watervliet, New York, was fatally shot near the intersection of Sherman and Quail Streets in Albany. The incident occurred in close proximity to the Albany Boxing Gym, a facility frequented by children for after-school programs. Dias was pronounced dead at the scene, marking Albany's first homicide of 2023.
