In the East Tremont section of the Bronx, a dispute that began outside a Popeye's restaurant on a Friday afternoon tragically escalated, ending the life of 24-year-old Jeremiah Smith. On February 10, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., gunfire erupted near the intersection of East Tremont and Hughes Avenues, shattering the midday calm. Jeremiah was struck in the torso by the gunfire. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, but the severe injuries he sustained proved to be fatal.
