On February 10, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a shooting occurred near the intersection of East Tremont and Hughes Avenues in the Bronx, New York. Jeremiah Smith, 24, sustained a gunshot wound to the torso and was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His brother, 37-year-old Devren Smith, was also shot in the torso and initially listed in critical condition; he succumbed to his injuries on February 12, 2023.
