In the Bronx, a dispute between neighbors over noise escalated into a fatal encounter on the evening of December 17, 2022, ending the life of 39-year-old Dillon St. Clair. A male resident of a multi-family home on Morgan Avenue in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood, St. Clair was shot in the chest during a heated argument with his upstairs neighbor. Despite being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries.
The conflict that led to this tragedy had been simmering for some
time, rooted in complaints about noise from St. Clair's apartment. On that Saturday evening, the upstairs neighbor, identified as 46-year-old Matthew Rushie, confronted St. Clair outside their residence. The argument intensified, culminating in Rushie allegedly firing the fatal shot. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, St. Clair's wife, a 911 dispatcher, was on duty and unknowingly handled the emergency call for her own husband's shooting. The couple shared four young sons.
In the days following the shooting, the investigation progressed swiftly. After initially fleeing the scene, Matthew Rushie turned himself in to the authorities at the 49th Precinct stationhouse, accompanied by his lawyer, on December 23, 2022. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Rushie is being held without bail as the legal proceedings in his case continue.
