The individual was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black sneakers. An investigation into the death of Nixon Rodriguez led to an arrest just over a week later. On June 11, 2023, authorities took 18-year-old Jamal Garrett of Manhattan into custody. Garrett was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, aggravated manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the fatal shooting. While an arrest has been made, authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
