On a summer afternoon in Endicott, New York, tragedy struck the community. Moelique Anthony Dawson, a 25-year-old male, was found lying on the ground in a parking lot on Adams Avenue on July 1, 2023. Emergency services responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m. after reports of gunshots. Dawson was swiftly transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The Endicott Police Department launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the killing. On October 4, an arrest warrant was issued for 24-year-old Nathaniel Williams Jr. of Endicott, charging him with second-degree murder. The search for Williams culminated in a standoff on Binghamton's West Side nearly two months later.
On November 28, 2023, the U.S. Marshals Service regional fugitive task force tracked Williams to a residence on Thorp Street in Binghamton. A Metro SWAT team was dispatched to execute a search warrant, leading to the evacuation of nearby homes and lockdowns at local schools as a precautionary measure. After several hours, Williams was taken into custody without incident around 5:30 p.m. He was subsequently arraigned and is being held at the Broome County Jail. Investigators have not publicly disclosed a possible motive for the fatal shooting.
