On a Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2016, a young man by the name of Jovelle Stewart was fatally shot in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting in Mount Vernon, New York. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on North High Street. Stewart, who was either 20 or 21 years old, was sitting in a friend's car when multiple shots were fired. Tragically, he was struck in the head by a single bullet and succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital.
Following the shooting,
law enforcement began searching for three suspects who were believed to have fled the scene. They were thought to have driven away heading westbound in a Volkswagen, possibly toward the Bronx River Parkway.
In the years following the incident, the case has remained unsolved, and the investigation has been ongoing. The FBI's Westchester County Safe Streets Gang Task Force, in conjunction with the Mount Vernon Police Department, has been working to identify those responsible for Jovelle Stewart's death. As part of their efforts to bring resolution to this and other cold cases in the area, the FBI has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information regarding the shooting that took place near 141 North High Street.
