On March 9, 2023, 14-year-old Zyaire Fernandez was fatally shot in Mount Vernon, New York. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the courtyard of the Levister Towers apartment complex. Fernandez was a freshman at the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy. He was transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
