In the cool of a late Wednesday evening in Mount Vernon, New York, the life of 28-year-old Jalin Williams was tragically cut short. On October 23, 2024, just before 10:30 p.m., a burst of gunfire erupted near the Taiz Market & Deli on West Lincoln Avenue, leaving two men wounded. One of the victims was Jalin Williams, a Black male, who suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to his left underarm.
Responding officers found Williams and another man at the scene.
While the second individual had been shot in his left forearm and was transported to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, Williams was rushed to Mount Vernon Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Mount Vernon Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the fatal shooting. As of late October 2024, authorities had not made any arrests in connection with the incident and had not publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive for the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible for Jalin Williams' death to justice.
