In the late hours of a summer evening in Brooklyn, New York, a dispute escalated into a fatal act of violence that claimed the life of 23-year-old O’Dane Shaw. On August 3, 2023, at approximately 11:50 p.m., an argument broke out on Warwick Street, near Sutter Avenue in the East New York neighborhood. The verbal confrontation took a deadly turn when a firearm was produced and a single shot was fired, striking the young man.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and the
wounded Shaw was quickly transported to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident left the community shaken and highlighted the persistent issue of gun violence in the area.
Following an investigation by the New York Police Department, a suspect was identified and apprehended. On August 10, 2023, just a week after the shooting, 37-year-old Orette Williams, a resident of Brooklyn, was taken into custody. The arrest occurred at his home on Troy Avenue. Williams was subsequently charged with murder and criminal possession of a loaded firearm in connection with the death of O’Dane Shaw. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the nature of the argument that preceded the fatal shooting or the relationship between Shaw and Williams.
