In the afternoon of November 26, 2023, a life was tragically cut short in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. Rayshawn Hines, a 17-year-old Black male, was near the intersection of Chester Street and Livonia Avenue when he was fatally shot in the head. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. under the elevated 3 subway line. Emergency personnel rushed the young man to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The New York Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. For months, detectives worked the case, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events of that fatal afternoon. Their efforts led them to a suspect in July 2024.
Travis Scott, an 18-year-old resident of Coney Island, was arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Rayshawn Hines. The charges brought against him were second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. While an arrest has been made, the motive behind the deadly shooting has not been released to the public. The case against Travis Scott is now proceeding through the criminal justice system.
