John Gyurtsak, a 74-year-old resident of Big Pine Key, Florida, was last seen on November 4, 2019. He departed from Big Pine Key on his 34-foot pleasure craft, named *Thermocline*, sometime before 2 p.m. that day. Gyurtsak was expected to meet a friend the following morning, but when he failed to show up, the authorities were notified. His boat was later found anchored with the engine running about one mile south of Big Pine Key, raising concerns about his whereabouts.
An extensive search operation was launched, involving multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Navy helicopter crews. Over 62 hours, search teams scoured approximately 2,280 square miles of ocean, but despite their efforts, no sign of Gyurtsak was found. On November 8, 2019, after covering a vast area with no leads, the Coast Guard made the difficult decision to suspend the search.
