Waverly M. Jones, a 33-year-old patrolman with the New York City Police Department, tragically lost his life on May 21, 1971, in Manhattan, New York. Jones, along with his partner Joseph Piagentini, was ambushed and fatally shot by members of the Black Liberation Army (BLA) while on foot patrol in the Colonial Park Houses public housing complex at 159th Street and Harlem River Drive.
