Death by Force

On January 2, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., 15-year-old Javel Lawton was fatally shot outside the Bay View Houses in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Lawton was visiting friends at the NYCHA complex when he was approached by a group of masked and gloved individuals. A verbal exchange ensued, during which one of the assailants opened fire, striking Lawton in the torso. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at Brookdale University Hospital.
