Henryk Siwiak, a 46-year-old Polish immigrant, was fatally shot on the night of September 11, 2001, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Siwiak had come to the United States in search of better opportunities after losing his job in Poland. He had been working various odd jobs and sending money back to his family in Poland.
