In the early hours of Mother's Day, May 8, 2016, tragedy struck in the East New York section of Brooklyn when 33-year-old Ramel King was fatally shot. A resident of the nearby Brownsville neighborhood, King was discovered at approximately 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Williams Place and Atlantic Avenue with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency services promptly transported him to Brookdale Hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead.
