Lamine Bah, a 33-year-old man from West Africa, was a devoted son and a hard worker who had moved to Brooklyn a few years ago to support his parents and seven siblings. He was known in his community as an admirable person and worked at the nearby Hafiya Restaurant. His life was tragically cut short on a Wednesday evening in front of his Crown Heights apartment building.
On that fateful night, building management had issued a warning that all electric bikes and scooters would be removed.
Lamine went downstairs to move his own bike and was in the process of calling friends to warn them about the notice. It was then that the sound of three or four gunshots suddenly rang out. In the chaos, a single bullet struck Lamine in the head. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
The community, particularly the local Muslim population, mourned the senseless loss of a man who was the primary provider for his family, especially for his mother who was bedridden and ill. His father was overcome with grief, too distraught to speak about the tragedy that had befallen their family. In the wake of his death, friends and neighbors flocked to the family's home to offer their condolences and support.
The New York Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities began canvassing the area for surveillance footage and are actively searching for two male suspects believed to be responsible for Lamine Bah's death. The NYPD has released video of the two individuals they are seeking in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made.
