In a tragic turn of events on the evening of March 18, 2024, a residence on Prendergast Avenue in Jamestown, New York, became the scene of a fatal shooting. Responding to a report of gunshots just after 5:30 p.m., Jamestown Police officers arrived at the apartment to find a grim discovery. Inside, they located three individuals who had been shot. Trevon D. Tripp, a 26-year-old male from the nearby city of Dunkirk, was found deceased within the apartment. The two other victims sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The investigation that followed began to unravel the circumstances of the violent encounter. The Chautauqua County District Attorney later characterized the incident as a 'robbery gone bad,' suggesting the shooting occurred during the commission of another crime. In the course of their investigation, detectives were able to identify several individuals believed to be involved in the events that led to Tripp's death.
Within a day of the shooting, the first arrest was made. On March 19, Jamestown Police took 35-year-old Juan C. Rivera of Jamestown into custody. He was subsequently charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation continued to progress, and on April 25, a second Jamestown resident, 53-year-old William Hernandez, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery. Later, a third suspect, Evan Nix of Amherst, was also indicted in connection with the incident. All three men have been indicted on charges of first-degree robbery. The investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement indicating that further charges are anticipated as they continue to gather evidence.
