In the winter of 2024, the life of 28-year-old Marlon Clay, a male resident of Buffalo, New York, was tragically cut short in a Jamestown apartment. On January 24th, police responded to a call about an unresponsive individual at the Park View Apartments located at 401 W. 4th St. Inside, they discovered Marlon Clay, who had been fatally shot. An investigation quickly commenced, led by the Jamestown Police Department with assistance from the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team and the District Attorney's Office.
The investigation rapidly pointed towards a suspect, and a collaborative effort with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Buffalo Police Department led them to Buffalo. The day after Mr. Clay's body was found, on January 25th, authorities located and apprehended their person of interest. The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Darius Kadenhead of Buffalo, was found in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol at the time of his arrest. He was initially held on charges in Erie County.
As the investigation into Marlon Clay's death continued, details emerged suggesting the chilling nature of the crime. The Chautauqua County District Attorney later described the shooting as an 'execution-style' killing, revealing that Clay had sustained a single gunshot wound to the back of his head. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released.
In July 2024, a Chautauqua County grand jury indicted Darius Kadenhead on a charge of second-degree murder for the death of Marlon Clay. Following the indictment, Kadenhead was arraigned and bail was set. The case against him is proceeding, with a trial anticipated to take place in the latter half of 2025. Kadenhead also faces a weapon possession charge in Erie County, which is expected to go to trial before the murder case in Chautauqua County.
