Kenisha Morrison, a 35-year-old woman, was found dead in her Queens, New York, apartment on March 22, 2024, in a tragic murder-suicide. The grim discovery was made during a wellness check initiated after her family grew concerned.
Inside the residence, police also found the body of her 41-year-old ex-boyfriend, Pedro Lugo. Investigators determined that Lugo shot Morrison before turning the gun on himself.
Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Morrison's relatives, she had been in a tumultuous and abusive relationship with Lugo for about a year. Her family had been trying to help her leave him, and she had recently taken steps to end the relationship. They described Lugo as jealous and controlling. The day before the fatal incident, Morrison had reportedly told family members that she was afraid of Lugo.
Authorities believe Lugo's inability to accept the end of their relationship was the motive behind the murder-suicide. There were no prior domestic violence reports on file with the NYPD involving the couple. The investigation into their deaths is concluded, with Lugo identified as the sole perpetrator.
