On March 25, 2024, NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens. Diller and his colleagues approached a Kia Soul illegally parked at a bus stop on Mott Avenue, suspecting its occupants of planning a robbery. As officers attempted to remove the passenger, Guy Rivera, 34, from the vehicle, Rivera allegedly shot Diller at point-blank range, striking him below his bulletproof vest.
