In the Morris Park neighborhood of the Bronx, on the evening of Sunday, June 9, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace. Responding to a 911 call at approximately 5:37 p.m., police arrived at the intersection of Sacket Avenue and Williamsbridge Road to a grim scene. They discovered a 29-year-old male, Kelvin Sims, lying on the ground with devastating gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
He lived just two blocks away from where he was gunned down.
Emergency medical services arrived quickly and transported Sims to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. Despite their efforts, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. At the scene of the shooting, investigators recovered a firearm, a silent testament to the violence that had just occurred. The motive for the shooting remains unclear as the investigation continues.
In the wake of the tragedy, the New York Police Department has been actively searching for two male suspects who were seen fleeing the area. One of the men was reportedly wearing a gray shirt and camouflage pants, while the other was dressed entirely in black. Authorities have released surveillance images of the two individuals, who are described as Black adult males, in the hopes that the public can help identify them. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Kelvin Sims. The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to his death.
